The Biggest Mistake I Made

The biggest mistake we made launching Bullhorn Automation to our recruiters:

Thinking we didn’t need to involve our recruiters.

We told them:

- This tool is excellent!
- It’ll solve your busywork
- Sit back and rake in that cash, baby
- It runs in the background, you won’t even need to think about it…

Big mistake.

The response?

Mistrust, confusion, uncertainty.

Not what you need when you’re:

- Wanting the database to be the first place recruiters go
- Engaging your team in new processes
- Building trust in technology
- Investing significant $$$

We needed recruiter involvement.

3 things we changed immediately:

1. Met with every team. Asked, “What parts of the job are annoying?"
2. Started an automation committee that met regularly
3. Showed recruiters each automation and explained every step

The result?

Recruiters started coming to *us* with problems, curious to see if automation could help.

Awareness → Visibility → Investment → Trust

Not every recruiter will come with you on the recruitment automation journey.

But we certainly brought more than when we started.

What’s been your biggest recruitment automation mistake?

P.S. I’ve made the mistakes, so you don’t have to. Follow me on LinkedIn for more tips.
